It's a Steal on Steel!

I know I know...kinda cheesy - but I had to!
Today we are giving you one item, two options!
4x6 or 8x10 - perfect.

Throw them in a cute frame,
create a cute pedestal sign,
create a chore chart,
make a message board,
do anything!

I'm dyin' over this stuff... After making my pretty cute (ya..I'm bias) bottlecap magnets, I kind of "need" a new magnet board.. Thinking of covering it in favorite, framing it and LOVING it!

This is part two of my tutorial explaining the chore chart system I have started using.  Last time I showed you how easy it was to make the bottle cap tokens.  This time I am explaining how to make the "help wanted" chart.

This project is quick and easy and can be adapted for lots of uses:

1.  Paint a rectangle of wood (I buy a bag of craft wood at the craft store).
2.  Cut a piece of cardstock to fit the wood and adhere it with modge podge.
3.  When it dries, sand and ink the edges of the paper.
4.  Use E6000 to glue a sheet of metal to the board (available at Mindy May's Market).
5.  Embellish as desired.
6.  Display on an easel (also purchased from Mindy Mae!)

This would also be a fun way to display pictures or little notes.  It could be glued to one of the fun frames available at Mindy Mae's:

Or glued on to one of the awesome candlesticks from Mindy Mae's to make a unique photo display:

Have fun creating!  I hope you'll check back later for part three of my tutorial!

Big Changes & a Bottlecap Chore Chart Tutorial!

Good Monday Morning everyone!  This weekend came with a lot of changes and we couldn't be more excited about them!

Number One: The blog got a little facelift! Let us know what you think!
Number Two: We now offer advertising on our blog and our website, Let us know if you're interested!

Number Three:  We have a new contributor in MMM - Morena Hockley!  Many of you have seen her playing our FB games and posting her cute creations to our photo album.  She will be doing a fun tutorial every Monday Morning!  A little about Morena:

Ciao!  My name is Morena and I am thrilled to be joining you here at Mindy Mae's Market!  I have had a blast purchasing and creating with items from MMM, so I was tickled to be invited to share my creations with you.  I have long been a teacher and a crafter, so to be able to join my two passions is a dream come true!
I am presently a stay at home mother to four awesome children, but in the past I have been a teacher and school administrator, teaching PK, elementary school, and adult Italian classes.  My parents were DIYers, and I credit them with instilling in me the notion that I can make it myself.  When I see something that I like in a store or catalogue I often try to figure out how I can make one at home.  I hope you enjoy my tutorials and have fun making your own!

Number Four: See her tutorial with Today's Item here!

Today's Item:

Trucker Chic!

So, as most of you know I was lucky enough to take a trip to Hawaii a few weeks ago...
I showed you guys my cute handmade bags over on our FB page but here they are again:
I justified this as my new "travel purse"

I justified this as my new "laptop bag".

But probably my most favorite purchase was this hat.

I spent WAY too much on it, as did my friend Catie (also wearing a new hat).
Because mine had a lace overlay, it was more...just my luck.
I spent $42.
Catie spent $36.
Outrageous, right?
So when I got home, Nikki and I decided to make our own.
I drove to 6 different truck stops and finally found 2 hats at the DI that clearly needed a little love.
{p.s. foam hats are WAY easier..}

We took two pieces from the fabric scraps and some embroidery thread and got to work.

Now, if you'll notice the rest of the pictures are of me sewing my hat..
Why you ask?  Because Nikki whipped hers out in about 10 minutes.
I soon found that my $42 was well spent! Because it took me A LOT longer.. sewing is not for me!
But we did end up making our hats for a whopping $2 {plus time}

We started at the brim, in the corner with a simple X stitch, went across the brim and then up both sides.  Then when you get to the top you'll cut down the center.  Put one side down, then the other. We tucked the edges of our top piece under for a cleaner look, then tucked the ends (near the button on the hat) under so it was also hidden, then continued our X stitches across and down the fold (this helps it to not have a pointy look)

And Voila!

Create Your Own Chalkboard!

I love this stuff!
Can you tell we love chalkboards?  We love them so much. So much.
And what is better than a chalkboard? Oh perhaps...your favorite colored chalkboard! {yay!}

It's pretty simple...
1 cup of your Favorite Paint Color
2 Tablespoons Unsanded Grout

Now you can drive yourself to Home Depot or Lowe's and buy a bag of grout,
but remember you only need 2 Tablespoons...what are you going to do with the rest?
I guess you could store it.......forever! :)
OR
and buy just enough for 1/2 gallon of paint! {aka PERFECT!}

And there you have it...you NEED some!
12 pieces of colored chalk & enough grout for 1/2 gallon of paint!
